Laugh &Learn International Preschool and Afterschool is dedicated to providing safe, quality childcare in an environment that fosters physical, emotional and intellectual growth. Our curriculum is based on the Developmentally Appropriate Program (DAP) by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Each class has a planned curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for the age of its students.

 3 CORE CONSIDERATIONS OF DAP

Knowing about child development and learning.

Knowing what is typical at each age and stage of early development is crucial. This knowledge, based on research, helps us decide which experiences are best for children’s learning and development.

 Knowing what is individually appropriate.

What we learn about specific children helps us teach and care for each child as an individual. By continually observing children’s play and interaction with the physical environment and others, we learn about each child’s interests, abilities, and developmental progress.

 Knowing what is culturally important.

We must make an effort to get to know the children’s families and learn about the values, expectations, and factors that shape their lives at home and in their communities. This background information helps us provide meaningful, relevant, and respectful learning experiences for each child and family.

Young Children Learn Best through Play... “Is this really true?” Although it may be difficult for parents to break away from the “drill and practice” teaching methods of the past, young children learn more when allowed to move at their own pace in a relaxed environment. Children playing blocks in the “block area” of the classroom are actually developing numerous skills, such as, language development, social skills, problem solving, mathematics (numbers, colors, shapes), etc.

It's the Process, Not the Product... This is the main principle of our approach to art and all forms of expression. Being creative is a way of expressing their feelings, ideas and emotions; therefore, it has to come from the individual and not the teacher's directive. At Laugh & Learn, we focus on the experience of working with materials, not the finished product.

“Do You Teach Reading and Writing?”... Absolutely! Laugh & Learn strives to create a language-rich environment in each of our classrooms. We do not instruct the whole class to trace letters, as this is inappropriate for preschoolers; however, the children are exposed to reading and writing all day, every day. Through story-telling, dictation, experience charts, writing in journals, songs, circle time and many other activities, we foster a love for reading and writing.

And of course, After school kids learn how to read and write English through journal and workbook.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
